To Autumn

O Autumn, laden with fruit and stained
With the blood of the grape, pass not, but sit
Beneath my shady roof; there they may'st rest,
And tune thy jolly voice to my fresh pipe;
And all the daughters of the year shall dance!
Sing now the lusty song of fruits and flowers.

'The narrow bud opens her beauties to
The sun, and love runs in her thrilling veins;
Blossoms hang round the brows of morning, and
Flourish down the bright cheek of modest eve,
Till clust'ring Summer breaks forth into singing,
And feathered clouds strew flowers around her head.

'The spirits of the air live on the smells
Of fruit; and joy, with pinions light, roves round
The gardens, or sits singing in the trees.'
Thus sang  the jolly Autumn as he sat;
Then rose, girded himself, and over the bleak
Hills fled from our sight; but left his golden load.

Gore

Photographs by Nicole Page-Smith

Thank-you for your hospitality in Gore from the Eastern Southland Gallery where Jeffrey Harris currently has the exhibition, Four Decades: Selected Drawings: 1979-2003, a small survey show of drawings. Jeffrey and Nicole enjoyed their stay and had a lovely weekend in the accommodation provided, a now renovated side chapel of a former church. The stay was very comfortable, thank-you. Prior to the opening party and dinner, Jeffrey and Nicole traversed the heritage trail to view the dragon's back, a mountain range with the local Maori legend suggesting a dragon lived in the mountains and you can still see his back. The heritage trail took both Jeffrey and Nicole through established gardens, a deer park and up to the cemetery. However, former ghosts more frequent the gallery below with a well accompanied permanent collection of the sexologist, John Money's ancient primitive arts collection on display in the adjoining side gallery. Gore appears to acclaim other claims to fame such as trout fishing, a country and western festival and the Fleming's Rolled Oats factory. The other selection as part of the Jeffrey Harris exhibition is from a former dealership association. Jeffrey's selection of drawings hang well in the adjoining room. The selection of Jeffrey Harris drawings from 1970-2003, have a strong reference to his personal states of being. Often a form of personal dialogue with the self is engaged in. The Jeffrey Harris exhibition, Four Decades: Selected Drawings: 1979-2003, is to carry through to 19th of April, 2015.
