Now we will speak of the effect of lights.

Some are of stars, such as the sun and the moon 

and the morning-star, others of lamps and fire.

There is a great difference between them,

for the light of stars makes shadows exactly 

the same size as bodies, while the shadows

from fire are larger than the bodies.

Philosophers claim that there is a certain air which is much more subtle

than ours above the clouds and that, unlike ours, it is not composed 

of terrestrial vapours but is a distinct element in its own right. They
